Faith. Family. Service. Cherokee.
Many of you may not know me, but here is a little bit of my background.
I’m a Christian, a husband, a father of three daughters, and a proud grandfather of six. My wife, Cheri Collett of the Buffington community, serves in public safety, as do all three of my sons-in-law. For 25 years, I served as a bivocational youth pastor at Crossroads of Life Baptist Church in Canton while also working full time at the fire department. We are now active members of Woodstock First Baptist Church where I sing in the choir and Cheri plays in the orchestra. Faith and service have always been at the heart of our family.
Each of our daughters is dedicated to serving this community. One works in the Cherokee County School System while earning her master’s in teaching. Another is raising the next generation as a stay at home mom. The third is a newly minted nurse at Northside Cherokee.
Our family is deeply rooted in Cherokee County. I was born and raised on East Cherokee Drive on land passed down from my grandfather to my father and now to me. Our family’s presence in this area predates the founding of the county itself. My grandfather even used his own sawmill to cut the lumber for the original Avery School. We are committed to this land, this community, and to protecting the way of life we all cherish.
Inspired by the bravery of volunteer firefighters responding to the Macedonia tornado in the 1980s, I joined Circle Five Volunteer Fire Department as a 17 year old junior volunteer firefighter. That decision set the course for my future. I worked 911 dispatch while training as an EMT, served five years with the City of Hapeville Fire Department, and then returned home to complete my career as a firefighter in Cherokee County serving the very people who raised me.
For over 32 years, I have served the citizens of Cherokee County. I have stood beside you during life’s best and worst moments, welcoming new life and mourning lives lost. Though I never needed an ambulance or fire truck at my own home, I once relied on the Sheriff’s Office when a drug crazed intruder tried to break in while I was on duty and my wife and daughters were home alone. I will never forget their swift, brave response. I know firsthand what it means to depend on public safety, and I will always stand behind our law enforcement and first responders.
Now, I see our community facing a turning point. Post 1 is the last frontier of Cherokee County, a place where open pastures, family farms, and wooded landscapes still reflect our roots. If we allow unchecked development to overtake this land, what legacy will we leave for our children and grandchildren? I am running to protect our rural heritage, uphold our values, and ensure that the spirit of this community is preserved for generations to come. I want to keep our taxes as low as possible while maintaining the quality of life and the rural character that make this area so special.
I may not have a slick campaign or a big budget. But I do have a lifetime of service, a deep love for this community, and a promise:
no one will work harder for you than I will.
